A Retiring Glance At Trade – Past, Present And Future
As my tenure at UK Trade & Investment draws to a close, it’s time for a little reflection…
Doing Business with the New Europeans
As investors look to maintain the returns on investment enjoyed in central Europe, the focus is shifting ever eastwards towards Bulgaria and Romania’s evolving economies. If everything goes to plan, the European Union (EU) will have two additional members at the beginning of next year.
Romania and Bulgaria, with a combined population of about 30 million, have the potential for good returns on investment. Real estate activity is picking up as western retailers and pre-accession investors look to enter the market; foreign banks are buying stakes in local banks and the country is gearing up to give its infrastructure a much-needed overhaul: the classic indicators of a country about to enter the EU.
Emita have invited 3 experienced speakers who will give us an insight into doing business with these two “New Europeans”. Our speakers have worked extensively in these countries and are actively involved with businesses in the region. They will not only give us an overview of these countries but also practical advice on how to do business in both Bulgaria & Romania.
Mr Bojidar Yotov, the Mayor of Russe - which is the fourth largest City in Bulgaria, has the only Romania / Bulgaria bridge and is the largest Danube port in the country will be attending the event. Russe has a tax free zone and is one of the preferred locations for economic investment. We're trying to arrange one-on-one meetings with the mayor on Thursday 1 June; if you're interested in meeting him, please indicate this on your booking form.
Bulgaria & Romania – Doing Business with the New Europeans will take place at the Grantham Marriott on Wednesday 31 May 2006. Registration and snacks will be at 17h30 and the seminar will commence at 18h00.
