Exporting starts at home
A short while ago I dined at a very well known Leicestershire venue that attracts people from all over the country. The dessert menu included 'a selection of French cheeses'. Nothing wrong in that you may say but ponder a little longer and you begin to wonder why specifically French cheeses. That venue is but a few miles from the source of some of the best cheeses in the world, made locally in Leicestershire. The UK more widely makes a huge range of some of the finest cheeses that money can buy.
Join us for a guided tour of Eglantine Vineyard - Nottinghamshire’s vineyard that produces award winning wine from locally grown grapes!
Eglantine Vineyard, Costock
Wed 17th Aug 2011, 18:00 to 20:00
This event has finished.
As part of emita’s summer programme of events, we are pleased to offer our members the opportunity to visit Eglantine Vineyard.
Eglantine Vineyard was first planted in 1979 on south facing slopes, in the parish of Costock. There are now four acres of vines and one of the largest collections of grape varieties in the country with over 100 imported from around the world. The main variety is Madeleine Angevine, a highly reliable vine which sets fruit every year and always ripens well, despite the unpredictable UK climate.
The vineyard currently produces sweet, sparkling and dry white wines, rose, red wine and a cherry wine as well as mead from home-produced honey.
Join us on Wednesday 17 August at 6.00 pm for a guided tour around the vine collection and to gain an insight into the wine making process. The tour will last approximately 2 hours and will include a commentary on the tasks which have to be carried out throughout the year, a visit to the winery where the wine making processes will be explained and the equipment used is on display. Of course, there will also be an opportunity for wine tasting too!
Interested in attending? Then book today as our hosts can only accommodate a limited number of guests. Bookings will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
