Exporting starts at home

A short while ago I dined at a very well known Leicestershire venue that attracts people from all over the country.  The dessert menu included 'a selection of French cheeses'.  Nothing wrong in that you may say but ponder a little longer and you begin to wonder why specifically French cheeses.  That venue is but a few miles from the source of some of the best cheeses in the world, made locally in Leicestershire.  The UK more widely makes a huge range of some of the finest cheeses that money can buy.

Reduced rates for short term student placements

ISPO, the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber’s International Student Placement Office has come up with an idea to help many companies to fill the gaps created by annual leave this Summer.

For a limited time only, ISPO is offering three month placements at a reduced rate of £400 plus VAT for Chamber members and £500 plus VAT for non members (usual accommodation and transport costs still apply).

Historically, ISPO has charged the same fee to cover its costs as the actual recruitment process demands the same amount of resources regardless of length of placement. However, a recent upsurge in applications for short term placements from certain EU member states has prompted a shift.

ISPO Co-ordinator Ben Littler said: “Currently we have so many applicants that we have been able to speed up the recruitment process for three month placements. the knock on effect of this is that we are able to pass on the reduced cost to our customers.”

The increase in applications for short term placements has been brought about by several factors, one of which is an increase in applications generally since ISPO re-launched its website in August last year. In addition, three month placements are part of the curriculum in some French universities. ISPOs recent growth in other areas of the EU is also helping.

Ben said: “we noticed that a lot of applications for short term placements were coming in from the Baltic states and from Poland. We decided to take advantage of this fact as these are precisely the countries that many of our new customers are looking to work with.”
