A group of local businesses joined EEN in conjunction with DNCC on a trade mission to Darmstadt, Germany.

The visit was jointly organised by EEN and the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce along with its sister organisation, Darmstadt IHK. It follows the signing of an economic cooperation agreement between the two Chambers last year and the launch of a new  two-way web portal to promote and assist inter-trading between businesses from both regions.

The visit coincided with the world's largest automotive trade exhibition, Automechanika.  As well as visiting Automechanika, local firms took part in a number of networking events and business matchmaking sessions aimed at helping members to work together and develop new business relationships.

Frankfurt Rhine-Main is within easy reach of the rest of Europe, making it a superior region for UK firms to do business with.

David Hood, the Chamber's Head of International Trade said: "Germany remains an extremely important country to the UK in terms of trading and Darmstadt IHK is one of the Chamber's key European partners”.

"This was an extremely useful visit for local firms to make, with many Chamber members making important new business contacts with their German counterparts."

Webro, based at Meadow Brooks Business Park, Nottinghamshire which distributes cables and connectors used in the satellite TV and automotive industries, joined the 10 other local firms on the trade Mission to Darmstadt and had great success.

Chris Bacon, Webro’s new business manager, told the Nottingham Post: "I did have some concerns about whether a mission of this kind was going to be the best use of our time, but it was really well organised.

"We had one-to-one meetings with contacts from Romania and Hungary and I've come away with some useful information and some good leads."
