Top regional export body teams up with Rolls-Royce and National Apprenticeship Service to help Derbyshire companies grow
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), Rolls-Royce and the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) are hosting an event at The Learning and Development Centre at Rolls-Royce, Derby on Tuesday 29 May from 9am until 1pm to help local companies find out more about securing the world-class employees they need to land global business.
'Engineering Your Future Success' will give firms the chance to find out about the support available to help companies looking to hire apprentices and increase exports.
At the event companies will discover how the Apprenticeship Academy at Rolls-Royce can supply them with the apprentices needed for future success. Attendees will also get a chance to be the first to tour the completed Apprenticeship Academy before it officially opens later in the year.
Firms will get an overview of the support available to help them win sales overseas from export expert Peter Hogarth, Regional Director of UKTI East Midlands.
Companies attending will also get the chance to hear first-hand how successful local company Paul Fabrications Ltd of Castle Donington has benefited from working with UKTI, Rolls-Royce and the NAS.
Peter Hogarth, Regional Director for UKTI East Midlands, said:
“Overseas firms look to the UK for highly skilled and creative professionals and the opportunities overseas for engineering firms are huge. High-value manufacturing is absolutely crucial to the UK and to Derby and we’re hoping this event will equip local engineering firms with all the knowledge they need to succeed.”
Andy Cripps, Apprentice Development Leader, Rolls-Royce said:
“Rolls-Royce is committed to apprenticeships as they provide people with the foundation required to excel and apprenticeship programmes provide a crucial supply of skills into business. The new Apprenticeship Academy at Rolls-Royce will enable us to train additional apprentices for our supply chain and the wider engineering industry. The Engineering Your Future Success event will be a great opportunity for local companies to hear how they can get involved and work with us.”
Karen Woodward, Divisional Area Director for the National Apprenticeship Service, said:
“The Government has put Apprenticeships at the heart of the economy and they are key to supporting this country’s growth and success. This event is the start to begin a shift in attitudes towards Apprenticeships and help individuals and businesses understand the benefits they can bring. For businesses Apprenticeships are a financially efficient way of bringing enthusiastic people into their workforce, giving them the chance to invest in the future of their companies."
Richard Higginbottom, Production Manager from Paul Fabrications, said:
“We always strive to exceed the aspirations of our customers and to achieve this we need young people we can train to be our highly skilled engineers of the future, to compete on the global aerospace market.”
