Exporting starts at home
A short while ago I dined at a very well known Leicestershire venue that attracts people from all over the country. The dessert menu included 'a selection of French cheeses'. Nothing wrong in that you may say but ponder a little longer and you begin to wonder why specifically French cheeses. That venue is but a few miles from the source of some of the best cheeses in the world, made locally in Leicestershire. The UK more widely makes a huge range of some of the finest cheeses that money can buy.

China is THE great economic success story of the past 30 years. China’s growth has been sustained and the economy grew 8.7 per cent in 2009, the best performance of all major economies. While the rise of China is easy to acknowledge, businesses constantly need to catch up with the speed and depth of change and development in China’s large and complex market space. Whether selling, trading, investing or franchising, China offers opportunities in abundance to UK companies, large or small.
Opportunities in China's Regional Cities
The opportunities for business in China are not just in the well-known Chinese business centres of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, but also further afield in numerous emerging regional centres. The British economy will benefit considerably if we can harness our strengths to the many opportunities throughout China.
UKTI, in partnership with CBBC, has published a new brochure on China’s Regional Cities which highlights the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities in Regional Cities, and provides a starting-point to our extensive China Regional Cities report.
What are the challenges?
Managing risk and dealing with challenges is part of doing business the world over, and China is no exception. Strategies for the protection of intellectual property rights and due diligence are essential for success. In addition, obtaining an understanding of Chinese business culture and the importance placed on good relationships is vital.
However, many of the potential pitfalls can be avoided with adequate preparation, in-depth research and by seeking good quality legal and professional advice wherever necessary.
